Discography: Craft New Colour [2010]

Teka was formed in 2009. Originally consisting of Byron Jenness and Luke Sexton, the first 6 months were spent recording and producing the band's current and debut unsigned album, "Craft New Colour". Written by Jenness/Sexton and produced by Jenness, the platform was set for the band's future sound and genre. Come 2010, James Spicer joined in April, followed by Luke Fowler in June to complete Teka. To replicate the band's studio sound for live performances, everything is played completely live. The reliability on technology such as sampling, triggering and midi is the key to producing Teka's electronic edge when performing live sets.

As for genre, Teka's sound is primarily based upon guitar parts over sampled beats and electronically produced acoustic drums. The blend of hard hitting guitar melodies and sub frequency bass lines create a certain drive and energy which allows the style to take it's own direction. The rhythmic construction is of a dance/drum and bass sound, which breathes adrenalin and energy into the pulse of the tracks. Factors such as the wide, ambient synth backing and subtle changes into melodic and chilled guitar breakdowns allow Teka's sound to be extremely versatile and functional for many different audiences. Almost philosophical yet anthemic vocals cast life and meaning into the tracks.

Constant attention to detail and focus on the style is paramount. Mostly at the production stage, this focus and analysis is also applied at every point within the writing and recording process. By creating and using their own drum samples, the originality and identity of the sound is even more pronounced. Clearly the band's main focus and overall goal is to create songs in which people relate to, either through the sound of the music itself or through the melodic and lyrical content. Belief in creating a unique yet commercially acceptable modernistic style, represents the core drive behind Teka's style.

Teka are due to begin performing and touring soon. All details will be listed on this website
