Stellar Memory Band Bio
Initially a band confined to playing covers in small gigs or in jamming studios to satisfy their music addiction, Stellar Memory soon got fed up. One epic day, instead of just playing songs by other bands, they decided to create their own sound. Formed in 2007, the five-man band has since embarked on the seemingly-impossible task of finding their footing in the Singapore music industry, and have been doing their best to make a dent on the local music scene.
Influenced by bands such as Paramore, Anberlin, Hillsong United, Lifehouse, Switchfoot and Saosin, Stellar Memory harnesses the mature themes of rock in this new season. Simply put, they play music that strikes a chord with their listeners, and give performances that are as much fun to watch as they are to listen to.
Corny jokes aside, the band is serious about making good music. Muscle man and drummer, Cliff, keeps the band together, while cousins and guitarists Ernie and Josh up the ante with their electrifying guitar riffs and cheesy antics. Bassist Nick, the most reliable of the lot, brings the band back to their senses when they get too excited about Modern Warfare. Rounding up the band is Edmund, a powerful vocalist who can stop women in their tracks (even if the women are only shooting him weird looks).
Most of Stellar Memory's songs are written by Ernie, with tweaks to the lyrics, melody and harmony by the rest of the band. Thank God for band members.
For Stellar Memory, winning Best Music Act at Street CLAP! 2009 was one of the greatest highlights of the year, and it also paved the way for the band's first 2010 gig â at CAN! Create, a Culture & Education Programme held in anticipation of the Youth Olympic Games.
With their debut six-track EP in the works, Stellar Memory has been spending quite a lot of quality time with renowned producer Roland Lim. Listeners can expect to hear the band's captivating first single, Brighter than the Sun, as well as other favourites like Beautiful Disaster and Inside to the Outside. The band will be releasing their first EP sometime this summer. Oh wait, Singapore doesn't have seasons. We mean 12 June 2010.
C'mon, now give their music a shot. Hear 'em at www.myspace.com/ourstellarmemory. Five minutes, and then you can go back to your char kway teow/Modern Warfare/homework. Or continue listening to their music.
