The daughter of a dairy farmer and a teacher in rural Utah, singer-songwriter Shantell Ogden is no stranger to hard work. Growing up feeding calves on the family farm and singing while riding horses with her father and grandfather, Ogden matured into a hit-the-pavement-running sort of songwriter.
Though music was more of a side-note than a serious career consideration during her college years at Utah State where she majored in Business/Agribusiness, Ogden found her voice and grew a new passion in 2000, when she began writing and performing in a Dahlonega, Georgia, songwriters' group. Learning to see songwriting as a craft, she revamped her perspective, began performing as a solo artist and released two indie albums in June, 2001 and July, 2002. She then booked her own first tour up and down the East Coast in 2002, repeating the routine in 2003 on the way to enrolling in Berklee College of Music. Ogden filled in the rest of her songwriting toolbox at Berklee and graduated in 2005.
Ogden moved to Nashville with plans to become a professional songwriter, a decision that built her up creatively while almost breaking her financially. Ogden worked the requisite day jobs to pay the bills and laid the groundwork for later success. Continuing to write, she worked with some of Nashville's finest songwriters and session players and released two well-reviewed albums â Water Through Stone in October, 2008, followed by Stories Behind Songs in October, 2011. Both albums generated attention from media, including The Daily Vault, Performer Magazine and Music News Nashville.
With a single in 2011 that broke onto the Top 100 Music Row Charts, and âGreat American Songâ in 2012, performed by Acklen Park and still on the rise on the Music Row Breakout Chart, Ogdenâs songs have been in rotation on more than145 radio stations nationwide, earning herself the rightful title of songwriter and carving out a career path in a competitive industry.
