Nautical Mile, while often compared to female fronted bands such as Paramore and Flyleaf, or Pop artists such as Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne, is in fact a whole new genre of music. With much more melodic and complicated musical components, which act to accent the vocals rather than back them, Nautical Mile brings a fresh outlook to an old sound.
Started in the Fall of 2008 by James Anderson and Austin Rosen, the band did not truly find it's soul until Rachel Cummings appeared. A classically trained singer, with strong roots in Opera and Jazz, Rachel brought an entirely new quality many Punk bands lack. Strongly influenced by The Lawrence Arms, Catch-22, Rancid and Rise Against, Nautical Mile's classic punk sound ascended into a blend of Alternative Rock, Punk, and Indie music.
Since the band's creation, the final additions of bassist, Zachary Flower, and guitarist, Jake Putnicki, have allowed Nautical Mile to record two singles with Andrew Berlin at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado. Working closely with Christopher Jak, Andrew Berlin, Channel 93.3, and several Denver area bands has given Nautical Mile the resources needed to grow and mature into one of Denver's leading local bands.
