Mary Fakhoury was born & raised in Chicago. She grew up in a very strict bubble, unable to do what she was compelled to do with her life. For years, she struggled with that issue & followed the rules set by her strict Mediterranean culture, community & parents. It was not until she made the decision to break away & follow her inner calling, which communicated to her that her path was in the musical & visual arts. Mary had many obstacles to overcome, because a woman who wanted to sing professionally was unheard of in her culture. On top of that, she had absolutely no support from her family, despite the fact that her father was one of his country's best performers for over 50 years. A singing career did not just fall into Mary's lap. However it was something that Mary was born into. Her father inspired her, but he also broke her heart when he refused to encourage her or share his amazing singing talent & experience with her. In Mary's eyes, her dad was one of the greatest performers who ever lived. He would sing on stage for five consecutive hours. whereas many of today's "artists" can barely get through one song. This is where, as a child, Mary's work ethic and self-discipline developed to such a high degree. Her early style had been influenced by artists like Etta James, Edith Piaf, Asmahan & Billie Holiday. Today, she draws a lot of inspiration from those modern day performers who embrace creativity, self-discipline & a strong work ethic. Mary believes that her talent speaks for itself. She despises the vulgar route that many of today's artists have taken, because she truly believs that a true artist can excite & move an audience without focussing so much on their sexuality, their pyrotechnical displays or lighting tricks. And Mary believes that is exactly how it should be.
