Lights On Get Dark For Debut Full-Length

For a band with luminescence built into their name, the gentlemen of San Diego's Lights On sure sound more at home in shadowy corners and dimly lit bar rooms than under their fluorescent namesake. Indeed, like Ian McCulloch and his ageless Bunnymen before them, bandleaders Tim Hines and Mike Kamoo understand that tuneful new-wave is best served with a side of gloom. Just enough to lend gravitas to fidgety post-punk and whip-smart mod-rock, two things these left coasters dish out in spades.

Of course, their taste for glum sonics doesn't sap the songs of appeal. On the contrary, after their five-track Waiting For The Heart To Beat EP landed them opening slots alongside Peter Bjorn And John and Loney Dear, film and TV came calling. Since last year, the band has been featured in HBO's "Hung", FOX Family's "Greek" SHOWTIME's "United States of Tara", CW's "The Vampire Diaries" and "Gossip Girl."

And with the recent release of Here Comes The Ocean, Lights On's full-length debut, the band seems poised for even bigger things. Lights On's continued restlessness in the studio at first led to an EP, which eventually turned into an album. This DIY release demonstrates a dedication to their hardworking indie ethos and shows they are more than willing to strike out on their own. Just last month, with support from college radio (#139 peak and building), the quintet made a victory lap around New York City, where they were received with open arms and breathless praise. Proof? Their performances landed them raves from the likes of BrooklynVegan, IFC.com, Free Williamsburg, East Village Radio, and more. Now the band has returned to their native San Diego, playing a massively successful show at The Whistle Stop during San Diego's music industry event NORTH PARK MUSIC THING; highlighted by their new hit "We Live Underground." But that track's sub-sonic sentiment likely won't hold up much longer for these guys. After all, the bright lights are already calling...

""We Live Underground" is filthier, tougher, and sounds like something The Electric Prunes may have jammed in '67 -- if they were a bit stiffer and paranoid out of their goddamn minds." - IFC.com

"A taste of post punk, surf, psych, new wave, indie, etc. This is, what I imagine, Depeche Mode would've sounded like if they grew up on the sunny side of the globe." - Free Williamsburg

"Lights On are one totally cool new wave band with indie rock clothes on. Or maybe it's the other way around. The harmonies are near perfect; the hard to forget melodies you can't walk away from. And the guitars just resonate with power chords, tasty little nuances and full speed ahead rawk." – WXPN – All About The Music

""Red Lights Flashing" talks about a tidal wave of sound, which is, quite frankly what they sound like. Rolling, crashing, flowing…they fit all of these descriptions. More great summer music to listen to in your car with the windows rolled down." – Sunset In The Rearview

"The lights are on and they're not turning off anytime soon. San Diego's five-piece, Lights On, keeps us whimsically peachy with their garden of tracks. "John and Anne" is a soft personal love letter duet coated with youthful bliss. " – Stranded In Stereo

"Just imagine the very best scene of a John Hughes movie, where the girl finally gets the guy, and that's how you feel when Lights On performs. The band has a flair for '80s New Wave, but with completely modern keyboard and electronica touches."  – The San Diego Union-Tribune

"a diverse yet reminiscent sound. ..."Listen to the Radio" sounds like a cross between the Arcade Fire's "Rebellion/Lies" & Modern English's "I'll Melt With You" yet our featured "John and Anne" sounded like The Stars and Echo and the Bunnymen's take on Peter, Bjorn and John's "Young Folks"" – Found Track
