Music has always played a vital role in the life of Jamie âJayMayâ Mayberry. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan he was heavily influenced by the âhip hopâ scene, from Run D.M.C. to Tupac Shakur this form of music has helped to shaped how he present the message of life that impacts him. Music tells stories of struggle, stories of rejoicing, stories of joy and stories of pain. The story JayMay tells is a story of redemption, a story of how God sovereignly moved in his life in 2001. It was then that he submitted his life to Jesus Christ. With that change, came a change in lifestyle. The sinner was saved and redeemed and vowed to live a life that displayed a relationship with Christ at the forefront.
He began to write after a friend asked him to come up with a verse for a song he was working on. With that verse JayMay began to create music that would not only glorify God but would also edify and encourage believers. In 2004 he started Double Edge Sword Records through that venture released two albums, âDouble Edge Swordâ and âWe Live Praiseâ. The label also released albums by artists S.O.C.O.M., Da Clay, UnknowN, Ghostwriters, and Ferb. His ground breaking song âThrow Em Offâ has earned spots on the nationally released compilation album Holy Hip Hop Volume 5 and the Holy & Crunk Volume 1. He has also earned recognition through Billboard and Unisong Songwriting contests. JayMayâs latest album âWe Live Praiseâ highlights praise and the way through some of lifes challenging issues. It features the songs âPraise Him Moâ, âCity Lightsâ and âH-U-M-B-L-Eâ with an accompanying video in rotation on youtube.com. He has shared the stage with many nationally known recording artists such as Da T.R.U.T.H., Skillet, Canton Jones, Lecrae, tobyMac, Jeremy Camp, Tedashii, Group 1 Crew, K-Drama, Kids in the Way and many more.
Music is just a small portion of his life; he also serves in the U.S. Army currently stationed in Michigan, his local church and the community. He aims to not only reach those around him with the Gospel but also teach them. JayMay is studying at Colorado Christian University pursing a Bachelor Degree in Information Systems Management. He and his wife have a union that spans 15 years with two children. In 2011 he plans to release a new album titled âFor His Gloryâ This album will reflect on the life of a Christian in light of receiving the full truth of the Gospel. Christianâs sometimes fall short of living up to all that Christ has for them and through this album JayMay wants to show them how we can receive all that the Lord wants for us in doing that we want to declare to God we are living For Your Glory!!
