How To Build A Fire is the music to a generation so wrapped up in politics, media, fashion, and self-absorption. It gently tugs at your senses causing you to want to make a change. Not a change that the media or politics would make you believe to be a change, but a real change. That type of change is the change that starts within....

To describe How To Build A Fire musically isn't something that the band themselves aspires to do. " If you're gonna put a label on yourself then you are really kinda limiting yourself as an artist" says singer/rhythm guitarist Jordan Dobbels. "Well, we can't really be labeled." says lead guitarist Jesus Diaz "And anytime we would try and put a label on our music, it ends up sounding like something it may not be. You know? I just don't think we need it." Many fans would agree that the band tries to mix it up a little in their live performances; playing such hard driving anthems as "Day of The Dead" or "Forest Fire" and then letting their hair down a bit to play some of their more melodic songs such as "Flat Tires and Bent Wires" or "Lonely Girl". "We really want diversity in our music." quotes Jordan. Between switching off singers (from male to female) and going from a set with saxophone to a set that has 3 accompanying guitars, duets and sing-a-longs; many would agree on hearing that diversity in their music.

As live performers they work to keep the attention of the audience as well as letting them get lost in the music itself. The song "Hesitation" tells of the dangers of broken homes....."We gave the kids guns and told them 'go out and play safe' " Where as "Flat Tires, Bent Wires" tells of a chance meeting and the growth behind it..."So lets hold each other up high To reach for the skies."

As a band, How To Build A Fire is continually attracting new fans and working on new music and new set lists. "Ideally it would be nice to set aside all other distractions and just really go for it, you know?" agree both Jordan and Jesus. "This is what we truly want to do."

Keep your eye on this group and watch for any up-coming shows they may have. How To Build A Fire is a new song for both a new and an old generation.
