Members: Haden Brightwell, Russ Daly, Adam Jessamine, Jake Sloan
Montgomery, AL rockers EVOLETT take their name from a character in fantasy film 10,000 BC -- a pretty young girl whose doe-eyed beauty conceals the soul of a warrior. The band is fronted by 20-year-old Haden Brightwell, whose sweet countenance canât disguise a big, belting voice capable of tearing a hole in the hull of an oil tanker. Coincidence? We think not.
EVOLETT is where melody and musical might meet, where wailing, weapons-grade guitar licks erupt into infectious choruses that reverberate in your head for days â and not because youâve got tinnitus. The bandâs debut album, For Your Consideration, finds its sonic center in the highly combustible, hard-hitting combination of Brightwellâs pealing-bell pipes and her bandmatesâ churning, chomping riffs, achieving the perfect balance of brawn and beauty. The foundation of EVOLETT was forged in 2008, and today Brightwell, guitarists Adam Jessamine and Russ Daly, and bassist Jake Sloan stand ready to take the band to a lofty level. Musically, they find inspiration in a broad spectrum of sounds, drawing on everything from Underoathâs metalcore and the post-hardcore of Taking Back Sunday to the industrial rock of Nine Inch Nails and the doom-metal roar of Sleep. In less than two years together, EVOLETT has taken the alternative rock scene by storm, sharing stages with a stellar batch of bands including Mae, Neon Trees, Terrible Things, NeverShoutNever, Cartel, Mayday Parade, and Hot Rod Circuit. To call them a band on a mission would be an understatement. âWe have a singular goal,â says Daly. âIf we can get one person into our music each night, then thatâs a good thing.â Guitarslinger Adam Jessamine, Evolettâs resident new guy, even drives 16 hours to Montgomery from his Philadelphia home to work with the band. Now thatâs dedication!
In February 2010, the ambitious Alabamans signed with Austinâs esteemed End Sounds label, and they wasted little time before unleashing the first fruit of their collaboration with the label, For Your Consideration. Produced by Andy Jackson (Hot Rod Circuit, Terrible Things, Death In The Park) and Mike Poorman (Piebald, Hot Rod Circuit, Therefore I Am), and mastered by Michael Fossenkemper (Kaki King, Bad Brains), the album features ten anthemic tunes that merge pop hooks with in-your-face rock power, as Brightwellâs soaring vocals glide over a raw, relentless guitar assault, while a powerhouse rhythm sectionâs musical momentum drives the band forward with a crucial combination of passion, power, and precision.
EVOLETT is ready to meet the world head-on. Their lead single, âThe Compromise,â is already a fan favorite, garnering the lionâs share of MySpace spins, and their album has been heard on over 120 college stations, even making it all the way to No. 1 at some. From âWe All Fall Downâ -- a rocking reminder to keep our own faults in mind when judging others -- to âGenetic Makeup,â an emotion-packed tune inspired by the relationship lost between Brightwell and her estranged father, thereâs no letup on For Your Consideration. But the band isnât stopping there â EVOLETT is preparing to bring a brand new vision to their sound by making their first video, and Brightwell, Daly, Jessamine, and Sloan are already at work on material for an EP-length follow-up to For Your Consideration, embarking on ever more intense explorations of a sound thatâs deliciously dark and heart-stoppingly heavy, but still surprisingly radio-friendly. Leaping headfirst into hardcore touring mode, theyâve got plans for East Coast and Southwest dates, and you can rest assured theyâll keep on spreading their blend of the heavy and the heady wherever they go.
