Between Truth and Lies is a four piece metal/screamo/grunge outfit out of Pittsburgh, PA. The band consists of a tightly coalesced core of friends with varying musical interests. "We just try to keep it diverse." says guitarist Kevin Snyder. "Too many bands pigeonhole themselves into one facet of one genre. Heavy music has way more room to be explored than a lot of people think."

The band is still searching for a true niche to call their own, and you can hear it in their songs. "We sound like a band trying to find themselves" vocalist Donnie says. "We just write whatever we think would be fun to play live. If we can encourage people who have never seen us before to have a good time, then we're satisfied." The band's energy remains consistent through their exploration of grunge, hardcore, metal, screamo, and even atmospherics; a point they are quite proud of. "We feel like if we put on a good show, that's the first step" says Christian. "The live show is where you can have fun, hear your songs realized, and give people a true representation of your band."

Guitarist Kevin Snyder comes from a musical background. Kevin can listen to jazz and death metal in the same sitting. Christian stays true to his hardcore and metalcore roots. Bassist Mike Flook interests run the gamete from punk to doom, and drummer Christian Lematte loves metal period. This melding pot of styles has provided a rich environment for the band to craft their songs. "I think it helps the whole songwriting process" Christian Lematte. "Kevin brings me the song, and then we deconstruct."

"A lot of time has been spent alone in my room with a guitar" Mike says. "and I'd say nine tenths of that material gets thrown out. I'm a perfectionist." The band writes by taking Kevin's song structures and making a soup out of them; everyone adding their own ideas. "Some ideas make it and some don't, but in the end we always end up with something that's different than when I brought it in, and it's always way, way better" Mike adds.

The band is inspired by fellow bands in Pittsburgh, their favorite horror films, and of course, their friends. "We have a pretty close core of friends that would do just about anything for us" says Donnie, "and we make sure we give back. Friends and fans are where it all begins, and we make sure to respect that."

Between Truth and Lies is a band poised to play an important role in the Pittsburgh music scene, and they are working hard to do so. "Don't sell your friends out, play good shows, and write good songs, play plenty of Mortal Kombat and watch movies and hockey with the band." says Christian. "It's hard work."
