Bayonets for Legs started with Damien Cullen and Michael Tesoriero as an acoustic indie project in 2008. The pair wrote nearly twenty songs together drawing on a vast range of influences.
At the heart of their songs was a fondness for concise and simple structure reminiscent of singer/songwriters like Paul Kelly, Joe Strummer and Neil Young.
The band welcomed Nathan Mulholland on bass and Dean Odgers on drums as constant fixtures and collaborators on new material.
With a full band in place, their sound evolved to sounds inspired by indie bands like Last Days of April and The Cure to the dirty sounds of 90's grunge bands like Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots.
In mid 2009 the band whittled down the first batch of songs they had written. They headed to Production Avenue Studios with producer Lachlan Mitchell (The Hard Ons, The Jezabels), and later, Jungle Studios with Dylan Adams (Sailmaker) to make their first record.
The end result is 'Rifles and Medicated Men', a record that sits alongside albums like If You Lose It â Last Days of April, Give Up - The Postal Service, On A Wire â The Get Up Kids, and Vitalogy â Pearl Jam.
'Rifles and Medicated Men' is set for release in October 2010 through MGM distribution.
