In late 1996, from the heart of Mid-Michigan, a group of 3 young musicians got together to form the entity known as 40 Flee. In the midst of the grunge movement, heavily inspired by Nirvana, Tool, and the "alternative" of the time, key player Chris Childs (singer/songwriter) wrote a slew of angst filled punk songs and, along with Nate Brookman (bass) and Bryan Tasior (percussion), belted their brand of eathy rock in various garages to whomever would lend an ear.
Joined in 1998 by a reggae influenced Chad Stone (guitar), the 40 Flee sound rounded out and the band got out to as many venues as they could book, covering a generous portion of Michigan and creating quite a buzz in local venues. In fall of 1999, just before peak sales of Prince albums, 40 Flee shacked up in their homemade studio and produced a demo CD (aptly called Demo (1999) comprised of ttheir blood, sweat, and tears. Mainly sweat. Through the muddy recordings you catch a glimpse of the band in all of their youth rocking out, with various bodyparts out, to the straight forward, punk and reggae influenced Main Street Hoes; A timeless ballad about blue balls and black eyes, and mostly songs inspired by the various young ladies, in a time when groupies flowed like beer, and the beer flowed like.. well, you get the picture. With the growing fanbase also came a growth in the bands sound, maturing from a garage band playing for beer, to a well rehearsed band, with strong songwriting skills, playing for more beer.
After recording their "Waiting For You" (2003) album, the band split to pursue other ventures, only to reform in 2005 to their very receptive fanbase. Now in 2006, with a remastered version of "Waiting For You", 40 Flee will soothe you with soft, melodic grooves like "Blow" and "Waitng For you" that you can't help but sing along with, and take you completely across the spectrum with harder hitting rock songs "Clear" and "Again". Now, their audience is growing to a national level thanks to their roots rock sound and a very motivated promotion team.
