2ND THOUGHT BAND

Classic Rock / Southern Rock / Other

Influences

--- Isaac--- My influences for guitar are John Mayer, Jerry Garcia, SRV, Allen Collins and Duane Allman. I really like John Mayer because of his ballady, blues style. I also Like Jerry Garcia because of his light, complex guitar work and subtle accents. Also, I like Allen Collins because he has a great southern rock style and Duane Allman because of his awesome slide technique. Also, I like Derrick Trucks because he is an unbelievable slide player. Also, even though he plays piano, Ben Folds because he comes up with obscure, cool chords and lyrics. Finally, Bob Weir influences me because of his clean, complex guitar work with the Grateful Dead and Ratdog.

---Brendan--- My greatest influences are Brian May of Queen, Peter Frampton, Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, and Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin. I like Brian May because he doesnt overplay, and is still amazing at soloing, and rhythm guitar. I am influenced by Peter Frampton because of his ability to write obscure chord progressions and use a talk box like a maniac. I am influenced by Gary Rossington because of his southern rock slide in songs like Free Bird. I like Eric Clapton, because he has an interesting style, and because all of his songs sound very different. And lastly, I am influenced by Jimmy Page because of his overall guitar skill at soloing.

---Riley--- My greatest influences include Billy Joel, Green Day, Freddie Mercury, Billy Powell, and Ray Manzarek. I like Billy Joel because he is a great piano player. Green Day because they were the first good rock band I listened to. Freddie Mercury because Queen has a completely unique style, and sound. Billy Powell of Lynryd Skynyrd because he gave me some southern rock influence. And last Ray Manzarek of The Doors because he has a great organ sound and uses no other insturments. I also love Steppenwolf because of their unique sound.

---Anders--- Although I am influenced by hundreds of drummers, three stand out; John Bonham, Chad Smith, and my drum teacher, John Calarco. First of all, John Bonham of Led Zeppelin influences me mainly for pioneering rock drumming. Also, his precision and speed is unbelievable. Next is Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers influences me because he has got a great groove and feel. The second a Chili Peppers song comes on the radio, you always know because of the feel. Also, he knows exactly when to play the right fill, but most importantly he knows when not to play. Lastly, my biggest influence is my drum teacher John Calarco. Even thought I have only been taking from John for a little over a year, I have already seen a huge improvement in my drumming. John has also helped me start to learn to hold back when the song doesn’t need a fill. All in all, these three drummers have helped my playing greatly, and you should definitely check them out.

---Braden--- My influences are Geddy Lee of Rush, Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine. I like Geddy Lee because he has bass parts that are nothing like the chord progression, but they sound perfect for the song. He can also sing and bass guitar solo at the same time, which is really hard to do. Geddy Lee also has almost perfected a perfect tone for the style of music he plays, which I am still trying to do. I like Flea because he has amazing bass parts that would take hours for me to write. He takes the normal notes and then mashes them, twists them, and experiments with them until they sound perfect. Also, he uses a lot of slap-n-pop bass, which is very difficult, but can be adapted to almost any style. I like Tom Morello, even though he is a guitar player, because he has one of the craziest guitar tones I have ever heard and plays around with every function a guitar has.
