Thirteenth Step were a Louisville, Kentucky rock band formed in 2006 by Michael Anthony King (lead vocals and lead guitar), his younger brother Nicholas Brae King (bass guitar and backing vocals), Brent Evans (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), and Jonathan Barnes (drums and percussion). Thirteenth Steps' sound drew from a variety of musical influences, including Post-grunge, Nu metal, and Psychedelic rock, and came closest to Acid rock music within the context of Post-grunge. Despite the prominence of Post-grunge during the band's early years, their stripped-down sound contrasted with acid punk, demonstrating a more "rootsy" influence that emerged from Neo-psychedelia. Many of Thirteenth Steps' compositions were melancholic.
